Jupiter Research has this to say about the online dating biz. So look for more and more super-scientific “value-added” quizzes and techniques and procedures as well as more and more niche sites.

Hmm, that makes sense. Aside from those whose goal is to make money on online dating, is the goal of all these online dating gimmicks to elicit the quirkiness from online daters who seem on their own to reflexively hide the very quirks that make them unique, cool, desirable to their yan?

Maybe all these pay for match tests are really just a blanket the shy on-line-dater can wrap themselves in? That is to say believing they are putting out something really personal about themselves (that these tests can detect) and that will help them identify their perfect match while never ever coming close to exposing who they themselves really are in their writing.

Perhaps we’ll move on from online dating to turning each other in with info we’ve found on each other. Romance replaced by the infatuation high which people get out of stalking. Or something like the detective-serial killer symbiosis that populates the bestsellers.

Dan, I like your theory. We’d all love the magic microscope that could isolate the True Me invisible to the naked eye. The Me who’s better than even I realize and is just waiting for the prince or princess or personality quiz to reveal it.
